The Refugees, Displaced Persons and Forced Migration Studies Center in partnership with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), organized a training workshop entitled "International Refugee Law: A National and International Protection Framework for Refugees in Jordan". The two-day workshop was presented by Kamal Mashreqi from UNHCR's Capacity Development and Capacity Building Department, and it was attended by the staff of the Refugee Center and a number of faculty and administrative staff at the University. However, it discussed the international and national framework for refugee protection, protection principles and non-refoulement procedures, protection of data and sources and their importance in dealing with refugees, and evaluation of sources and data and their impact on the protection of refugees.

The Director of the Center, Dr. Ruba Al-Akash, said that organizing this workshop comes within the strategic partnership between Yarmouk University, represented by the Refugee Center, and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, with the aim of introducing the Center's staff, researchers, and those interested in asylum, displacement and forced migration issues on how to deal with refugees and the legal framework related to asylum issues, in preparation for future scientific studies. She also stressed the importance of continuing this type of training in partnership with the UNHCR, as it is the home of competence and expertise in dealing with refugees and their various issues.
