The Refugee Center of Yarmouk Organizes a Lecture on the Living Conditions of Refugees in Palestinian Camps in the West Bank

The Refugees, Displaced Persons and Forced Migration Studies Center at Yarmouk University organized a lecture entitled: The Living Conditions of Refugees in the Palestinian Camps in the West Bank, in which the coordinator of the Master of Migration and Refugee Studies Program at An-Najah National University of Palestine, Dr. Asaad Tafal, talked about the refugee situation in the West Bank.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Director of Yarmouk’s Center, Dr. Ruba Al-Akash, stressed the constant endeavor of the Center to organize and hold meetings that talk about the life experience of refugees, displaced persons and forcibly displaced persons by hosting specialists, to see and keep abreast of all the developments related to such issues, with the aim of raising awareness and working to conduct scientific studies that contribute to reflecting the lived reality in refugee camps and the conditions suffered by refugees in various fields.

Tafal expressed his thanks to Jordan for what it has provided to refugees of various nationalities, and its role in supporting its Palestinian brothers in light of the difficult circumstances they face. He also thanked Yarmouk University and the Center for Refugee Studies for organizing this lecture. He then stressed that the refugee issue has been the focus of the Palestinian cause since its inception, and it is considered one of the most complex and important historical issues in the Middle East. He added that the refugee camps carry several meanings: one meaning is related to strength, steadfastness, and resistance in the context of the Palestinian identity, and another is related to pain that is embodied in the difficult circumstances that refugees experience daily. Finally, he stressed the need for paying more attention to the living conditions (social, health, economic and educational) that refugees have been experiencing since the Nakba until the present.
